You asked for it! Here’s my list of my all time favourite wedding dresses from both film and TV. Interestingly, all my choices are such a range a different styles, from traditional dresses, to ones that move away from the typical white colour.

Do you agree with my order or is there any dresses I forgot to include? Let me know in the comments!

32. Amy Adams in Enchanted (2007)

If you’ve seen this film you know how iconic this dress is! It’s not often we get a wedding dress in the opening sequence, but Enchanted breaks a lot of film norms! It’s a bit OTT but we love it!

31. Michelle Monaghan in Made of Honor (2008)

The film does not do any justice to the dress with the hair styling and ‘scottish sash’, but if you took all that away it’s actually very pretty. I love the unattached sleeves which adds a unique touch to the dress.

30. Mayim Bialik in The Big Bang Theory (2018)

This wedding dress is rather modest, however it suited the character’s personality perfectly. With a more subtle top half, the stunning sleeves and it’s many layers, this dress has all the elements of a perfect wedding gown.

29. Sandra Bullock in The Proposal (2009)

I like that this dress has a more vintage vibe and isn’t the traditional fabric you see on a wedding dress. I’d maybe go for a different neckline though!

28. Lauren Graham in Gilmore Girls (2005)

I wish this dress had kept the florals from the top going all the way down it rather than having two separate fabrics. However, that being said Lauren Graham can make anything look good and the veil makes it all work!

27. Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 (2004)

A simple, classic, strapless wedding dress? What could be better!

26. Cobie Smulders in How I Met Your Mother (2014)

I LOVE the top half of this dress! The sheer arms are inspired! I’ve said it before though, I’m not a mad fan on the fishtail style, which is why the dress is a bit further down the list.

25. Kristen Bell in When in Rome (2010)

Here’s another example of a classic style wedding dress. I like that there’s a silver strap across the middle and the floral embellishments give it that something extra.

24. Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses (2008)

This dress has such a lovely neckline, and it fit the beach theme of the wedding perfectly. It’s understated but I think I like it all the more for that.

23. Kristen Stewart in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One (2011)

The back of this dress is absolutely stunning and the clip veil is such a good addition to the whole attire. I personally wouldn’t go for such an exposed back myself but it really gives the dress that something extra!

22. Courtney Cox in Friends (2001)

I still can’t get over how small Courtney’s waist looks in this dress. It could not be more perfectly made for her, which is probably why there was little need for over-styling with the hair and makeup and yet the gown still looks effortless.

21. Sarah Rafferty in Suits (2018)

I always think a black dress at a wedding is a bad omen which is maybe why I rated it a bit lower. That being said, this dress is stunning and suited the character so well.

20. Candice King in The Vampire Diaries (2017)

The headpiece gives this dress such a classic bohemian vibe and the hidden sheer fabric at the front makes it perfectly different and unique.

19. Candice Patton in Supergirl (2017)

The bodice on this dress is just something else! I love a bit of lace and the small bow is such a clever touch.

18. Leighton Meester in Gossip Girl (2011)

I loved this dress on Gossip Girl (definitely princess worthy) but it’s nowhere near as amazing as Blair’s second dress from the show which I’ve rated higher up.

17. Malin Åckerman in 27 Dresses (2008)

I actually really like the bikini top style of this dress, and the lace insert and strap. It’s just a shame the character cut up her mums wedding dress to get the perfect look!

16. Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries 2 (2004)

This is definitely a princess/queen worthy dress. The top of the dress with all its lace and off the shoulder style is just amazing.

15. Jaime King in Hart of Dixie (2011)

The wedding may have not gone ahead but Jaime’s dress is one of my all time favourites from a tv show. Somehow despite the amount of feathers, the dress is highly sophisticated and has such a uniqueness to it.

14. Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama (2003)

This is one of the few films where I’ve seen such a different take on the classic wedding veil and I actually love it. Maybe short veils should be more on-trend as it really adds to the whole look.

13. Lucy Hale in Pretty Little Liars (2018)

Rating this one highly might cause some controversy due to the vintage state of it, but it suited the character perfectly. It’s definitely a more modern vintage take on the boho wedding dress and the detailing on the sleeves so much to be desired.

12. Meghan Markle in Suits (2018)

Ignoring the black belt that randomly appears in between the scenes, I adore this dress from Suits. It’s no wonder that so many wedding dresses are now beginning to incorporate so much lace and embroidery when they give that modern fairytale feel like this gown does.

11. Blake Lively in Gossip Girl (2012)

I am still somewhat split on how I feel about this as a wedding dress. It feels so odd to have the gold corset and the off-white paired together. However, with the character often seen as the ‘golden girl’ on the show, it’s so fitting they brought that colour into her dress.

10. Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde 2 (2003)

A pink wedding dress?! Only Elle Woods would dare.

9. Hannah Simone in New Girl (2016)

I loved both of Cece’s wedding dresses in New Girl. It was amazing they wanted the wedding to offer an insight into Indian culture and her dress reflected that.

8. Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia (2008)

The ultimate beach wedding dress. I love the touches of blue which feel so reflective of the film’s location.

7. Kate Hudson in Bride Wars (2009)

This is Vera Wang wedding dresses at their finest… enough said. Just perfect.

6. Clémence Poésy in Harry Potter and The Death Hallows Part One (2010)

A Harry Potter wedding gown was always going to be something completely unique. I never thought a black and white wedding dress would work, yet here we are.

5. Sonoya Mizuno in Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

I’ve never seen this film but I do love the dress. Who doesn’t want to sparkle on their wedding day, and the sheer top is simply stunning.

4. Lily James in Cinderella (2015)

Is it clear yet how much I love florals?! This is such a typical disney princess dress but it totally works.

3. Leighton Meester in Gossip Girl (2012)

I completely love this. I would never have dreamed of using blue for a wedding dress but Elie Saab has proved anything is possible, and traditional is not the only take to make a successful wedding gown. This is arguably the most memorable gown of the list and steals the show.

2. Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City: The Movie (2008)

Sex and the City was always going to give us a big and bold gown for Carrie’s wedding, even when she herself wanted more understated. The fabrics and layers make this the most beautiful dress. (I would maybe lose the blue feather though!)

1. Adelaide Kane in Reign (2014)

All hail the Queen! This is my all time favourite wedding dress in film and TV. The stunning lace, gorgeous jewelled belt, and emphasised corset just gives it so many amazing features. Whilst the show is set in a different period, this dress toes the line between vintage and modern, making it a timeless classic that could be worn in a range of different decades.
